Meaningful Immersive Conversations

For the past 10 years, I've worked as a freelance paralegal and musician and I've never turned down a gig whether it's drafting license or partnership agreements or composing music or recording voice overs for clients.  I enjoy the variety of work that comes my way, particularly when it comes to producing music for clients.

I recently created a jingle for a nationally recognized pediatric psychologist who's launching a video series called, Thinkerbee Theater, a social-emotional learning activity for young children in grades Pre-K through 3.  She asked if I could create a video to document my process of creating jingles for clients.  I've never been asked to provide a video recording to accompany audio files.  My home recording studio is adequate for creating studio quality audio recordings, but I don't have any professional AV studio lighting or HD video equipment.  I've got an iPad and a Sony camcorder that I purchased many years ago.  So of course I felt rather anxious about providing her with a video, but it was a great learning experience for me.  I realized that creating videos to document my music production can potentially serve as a great marketing tool in order to pitch to prospective clients.

I recently learned about an innovative online tool that encourages dialogues around video called, Vialogues.  This platform leverages videos for learning by adding group interaction as part of the viewing experience.

The moderator creates a "Vialogue"  by uploading a video which can be set up as public or private to a particular group of people.  Participants can add comments at any point in time in the video and those comments can have replies allowing collaborative feedback about the video.  The moderator can also add short answer questions.

Vialogues has become increasingly popular with students preparing to become teacher as it allows teacher candidates to review and reflect on their performance and to discuss areas for improvement with their professors/mentors.

I decided to give Vialogues a try and upload a video.  My next goal, polishing up my speaking skills, purchase some professional lighting and upload more videos onto Vialogues.
